Anxiety and Depression

369787496You know it doesn’t have to feel this hard.

Life used to be easier. You used to feel less weighed down.

Now you are ready to focus on your goals, make your dreams come true, get out, and feel good about living your life.

But your symptoms of anxiety and depression feel too heavy. You feel like you can’t find your footing and are standing on loose ground. You have ideas of what you want to do and who you want to be, but it feels like you keep taking one step forward and two steps back.

You’ve finally reached a point where you know there is more to life than a constant struggle. Your anxiety or depression, or both, will no longer control you. Symptoms like restless nights, irritability, feeling like you’re running in circles half the time, and feeling exhausted the other half. Symptoms like nausea, difficulty concentrating, and appetite changes. These are starting to impact your relationships, work, and self-esteem.

You’ve reached a point where you’re ready for a change. It’s time these obstacles are moved aside, and it’s time that you start to feel the energy and joy in life that you know is possible.

335971268It’s a lonely feeling.

You feel like a burden because it’s been something you’ve been coping with for a while now, and you worry people are starting to get tired of this version of you, so you do your best to put a mask on.

You’re exhausted from feeling so lost and lonely. You feel so out of balance that you’re either immersing yourself in distractions like substance use, socializing all the time, and social media or isolating and avoiding interactions.

I know how debilitating it can be because I’ve experienced anxiety and depression. It surprised me because it had crept up slowly and become silently pervasive. I had adapted to these symptoms over time, and it wasn’t until I was able to put words to my experience that I realized how serious it had become. I realized I had become lost not only in connection with others, but also lost from myself.

I realized how I was managing my anxiety and depression felt like coping, but it perpetuated my symptoms.

I know you’ve been trying to cope.

You’ve done the Google searches.

You’ve tried diet changes.

You’ve attempted exercise regimens, journaling, and reading self-help books.

After all this, you just want to know how to feel better and get your life back.

I believe that anxiety and depression result from our living under oppression: Living in a way where we’re not truly seen or heard for who we are… or being told in one way or another that we don’t belong, aren’t enough, or are too much.

These painful messages can be internalized and become symptoms that impact our lives, creating seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Together, we will explore some neuroscience behind those symptoms.

You will learn how your life experiences have impacted how your brain functions, and through this process, you will be more empowered to engage in practices that alter the patterns in your brain to lead to a more healthy and joyful sense of self.

The more we know about how our minds operate with our entire system, the more we can regain control of our lives and live fully with more love, happiness, and wholeness.

2149334385Working from the bottom up and top down, we’ll strengthen your coping skills.

Through top-down interventions, we will utilize tangible skills like cultivating mindfulness, creating calming practices that reduce anxiety and depression, and exploring new ways of viewing your relationship with your world.

We will combine this with bottom-up processing, where we dive into some of the deeper layers of the WHY question – WHY is it that you react this way? We will explore the core parts of your being and the experiences that have led to these symptoms. This increased insight will lead to increased compassion and understanding and enable you to take more control over these symptoms and reduce how they negatively impact your life.

While I cannot prescribe medications, I can support you in accessing a psychiatric provider for an evaluation or prescription. We can then incorporate that care into your sessions. Medications can be beneficial for some; if that’s the case for you, I would be honored to support that part of your healing journey.

You are not broken!

I’ve been doing this for a long time, so I’m confident that after working together, you’ll be in a place where you believe that, too.
